Which Filter is Right For You?

Understanding our Acronyms

Ultrafilter provides filter elements to support a variety of specialized production needs, such as biopharmaceuticals, food, and beverage (including wine, beer, and dairy), and electronics manufacturing. As you know, there's a level of complexity and expertise required to ensure you've got the right equipment in place. This post helps you understand the features and benefits of our key product lines and the acronyms we use to identify them.

The table below provides a basic overview of each key filter type.

Filter Type Description Use Cases Features & Benefits
PF-PESPolyethersulphone Membrane Cartridge Filters

A range of microbially rated cartridge filters featuring the latest developments in membrane technology, PF-PES Serie cartridges are based on a naturally hydrophilic polyethersulphone (PES) membrane with a mirrored asymmetric pore structure. When combined with quality all-polypropylene cartridge components and high integrity manufacturing techniques common to all Ultrailter cartridge filters, the polyethersulphone membrane provides a high strength, long life cartridge of consistently precise microbial retention. PF-PES cartridges provide a combination of features and benefits not hitherto available from cartridges based on PVDF, nylon, mixed esters of cellulose or polysulphone membranes.

PF-PPPolypropylene Membrane Cartridge Filters

PF-PP Serie cartridges are manufactured using a polypropylene membrane of uniform thickness and high voids, with a homogeneous structure and controlled pore sizes. Designed for the removal of submicron organic and inorganic particulate matter, the inherent structural stability of the membrane eliminates any risk of media migration and minimises the release of particles. PF-PP Serie cartridges offer a wide range of chemical compatibility. The cartridges can be used for the filtration of aggressive chemical solutions including acids, alkalis, solvents and etchants. PF-PP Serie cartridges can also be used for a wide range of sterile venting and gas filtration applications.

PF-PTePTFE Membrane Cartridge Filters

PF-PT Serie cartridges are manufactured using a highly hydrophobic ePTFE membrane. The enhanced ePTFE membrane offers exceptionally high gas flow rates at low pressure differentials). Recommended for sterile gas filtration and venting applications. The hydrophobic characteristics of the ePTFE membrane makes the PFPT Serie filter cartridge particularly suitable for wet gas sterilising applications, such as fermenter air feed. For solvent and aggressive chemical filtration applications, PF-PT Serie cartridges offer a wide range of chemical compatibility with high thermal stability. The cartridges can be used for the filtration of aggressive chemical solutions including acids, alkalis, solvents and etchants.
